Below is a list of recent activities of the FRIENDS.
- 2 Winter Warmings musical event fundraisers sponsored by the FRIENDS and Whaling City Sound, with refreshments provided by Destination Soups
- Funding to help finance the production of a film about the Audubon Collection of the New Bedford Free Public Library, and as part of the Audubon Exhibition at the New Bedford Art Museum.
- In conjunction with the Audubon Exhibition at the Art Museum, the FRIENDS granted funds to assist with the restoration of Audubon’s “Raven.”
- Children’s Writers Contest – The FRIENDS allotted funds for the purchase of gift cards as awards.
- My Friend Hetty Green presentation by Lucy Bly at the FRIENDS Annual Meeting September 4, 2018
- An Evening with Eleanor Roosevelt presentation by Carol Cohen at the Friends Annual Meeting, September 5, 2017
- Little Libraries at 4 New Bedford Fire Stations
- Main Library Used Book Sale (ongoing)
- Symphony Tales — A music and literacy program for pre-school children, presented in the libraries in 2017
- Annual Funding for the city libraries and their summer reading programs
- Purchase for the Library collections a historic photographic print by Al Kaplan, a native New Bedford photographer, in memory of Joan Halter, former Friends President
